How do I request a copy of a police report? Requests for copies of Police Reports must be made in writing. For your convenience, a PDF request form is available by clicking on the link in Related Information or at the front counter of the UCLA Police Department. Please allow three to five working days for UCPD to process your request. Requests may be made in person or mailed to: University of California Los Angeles Police Department Records Division 601 Westwood Plaza Los Angeles, CA 90095 Who may request a copy of a police report? Criminal Cases: The victim(s) of a crime may obtain a copy of their police report unless one or more of the following conditions exist: A suspect had been identified There is an active investigation If the case has been submitted to the County District Attorney’s office Non-Criminal Cases: Any member of the general public may request a non-criminal police report, but the police department is not obligated to provide a copy. Requests are approved on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Chief of Police. Traffic Accidents: Only the parties involved, authorized representatives or insurance companies are provided traffic accident reports. How much will it cost? How can I pay for it? The cost to obtain a police or EMS report is $17.00. Traffic accident reports have a separate fee structure listed below. Property Damage Only: $44.00 Minor Injury Report: $81.00 Major Injury Report: $160.00 Fatality: $300.00 Checks should be made payable to “U.C. Regents”. Background Clearance Letters Background Clearance Letters are provided to requestors who reside in the immediate vicinity of the UCLA Police Department and campus community. The fee is $25.00 and takes approximately three to five business days to process.
