UC policy allows for the presentation of a non-cash award to an employee for recognition, length of service or retirement purpose. In addition, gifts as an expression of sympathy may be presented to employees in certain circumstances. Please be sure to indicate the specific purpose of the expenditure (details of recipient, recognition, etc.) when submitting the order or claim for reimbursement.
Allowable Funding Sources
|Recognition ("On-the-Spot" Awards) ||Awards may not exceed $75 in value. Exceptions to exceed the dollar limit are not normally approved. ||State funds may be used. || |
Awards should be infrequent, given to employees on a nondiscriminatory basis and based on objective criteria which are documented.
Departments should issue a blanket order (Class Order J) for repetitive purchases with the same vendor.
|Length of Service, Retirement ||Awards may not exceed $400 in value. No exceptions may be made to the dollar limit. ||State funds may be used. ||Awards are not allowable during the employee's first five years of service. |
|Sympathy ||Awards generally may not exceed $75 in value. Requests for exception must provide specific justification for exceeding the $75 limit and must be approved by the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor, Corporate Financial Services. ||State or federal funds which carry a usage restriction may not be used. || |
