Chief's Message
Summary: Welcoming message from Chief James D. Herren.

I am pleased to introduce myself and welcome you to the UCLA Police Department website. After spending more than three decades in municipal police work in the Los Angeles area, I have recently joined the UCPD team. I am honored to be a member of this department and look forward to continuing the strong tradition of service to all of those in our campus community.

The women and men of the UCLA Police Department are committed to making our campus a safe and secure place. We strongly believe in the principles of community policing, and work with our campus and community partners to enhance the safety and quality of life at UCLA in support of the University’s mission of education, research and service.

We also recognize that all members of the campus community share in the responsibility of maintaining our safe environment. To that end, our website provides relevant and practical information to help you prevent and better respond in the event of a crime or a public safety emergency.

Please let us know how we can best serve you.

Sincerely,

James D. Herren
Chief of Police
