| | Test Kitchen at Hedrick Open for Dinner Service – Taste and Rate New Dishes The Hedrick Residential Restaurant reopened for Winter Quarter 2013 as the Test Kitchen at Hedrick with new carpeting, updated furniture, and a fresh menu. New offerings developed by the Dining Services culinary team, are now ready for customer feedback. Items include “Sweet Pepper & Steak Salad,” “Roasted Beet, Carmelized Onion, and Blue Cheese Pizza,” “Chipotle Chicken Bowl,” and much, much more. Items that are sampled this quarter may appear on the menu of the new Sproul Residential Restaurant, currently scheduled to open in Fall 2013. The concept is planned to focus on healthy options. Test Kitchen is normally open for dinner, Sundays – Thursdays, from 5:00 to 8:00p.m. (check Hours of Operation for specific dates). The Best Concept Awards competition annually recognizes innovative and top-performing operations in the foodservice industry. UCLA’s FEAST at Rieber was selected for the “Best Menu” award by an editorial judging panel and was showcased in an exclusive edition of the magazine. Daryl Ansel, Director of Food & Beverage for UCLA Dining Services, was presented with the award at the 2012 Multi-Unit Foodservice Operators (MUFSO) and Food Management IDEAS conference in Dallas, Texas in September. FEAST at Rieber is open for lunch and dinner and features two pan-Asian cuisines at each meal from a rotating schedule. The designation—awarded by the Green Restaurant Association—recognizes UCLA Dining Services’ efforts to meet Association standards for an environmentally-friendly dining operation. These efforts include sustainable food purchases, a composting and recycling program for both customer and kitchen waste, and use of energy-efficient lighting and water-saving devices.
