Labeling Hazardous Waste (Online Tag Program)
Summary: The Online Tag Program (OTP) is the way that you label your hazardous waste. It provides all of the required components of labeling hazardous waste.

Hazardous waste tags are generated through the Online Tag Program (OTP). Each Principal Investigator (PI) establishes an account that the entire lab(s) can use. To sign up, send an email to hazardousmaterials@ehs.ucla.edu. Include the following information in the email:

  • First and last name of the Principal Investigator (PI)
  • PI phone extension
  • PI email address
  • Name of Safety/Waste Coordinator
  • Safety/Waste Coordinator phone extension
  • Safety/Waste Coordinator email address
  • Funding Source (Research, Hospital, Instructional, Facilities or Other)
  • Department
  • Additional email address to send notifications to

Once you are signed up to be an OTP user, you will receive a confirmation email telling you that an account has been set up in your name. The email will contain the website address, your user login and password. Please distribute it to everyone in your lab or shop who is responsible for labeling hazardous waste containers. Only one login is needed per lab or shop group.

Note: All hazardous waste tags need to be printed on the accumulation start date. That is the date that you first start adding waste to a container.

Clear packing envelopes are provided by Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) to affix the printed tag to the container. These are provided for your convenience but are not mandatory for use. You can obtain the clear packing envelopes from the EH&S staff during the hazardous waste pick-up or from the EH&S office on the 4th floor of the Strathmore Building.

For assistance on the system, download the OTP User’s Manual. Call or email your questions to the EH&S contacts listed below.
