UC Management Development Program

Published: 2012.06.18

Nominations are being accepted for the new systemwide UC Management Development Program. The program is designed to strengthen leadership capability in three core competencies – People Management, Employee Engagement and Change Management. The program is intended primarily for managers at MSP Grade 3 and above (or equivalent classifications), especially those who manage supervisors and/or lead complex programs or projects.

The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) has commissioned three industry leaders in talent management and leadership development – Towers Watson, Blessing White, and Development Dimensions International – to create an energizing program that is relevant to the demands facing University managers. Experts from these firms will facilitate workgroup discussions that are relevant to the UC context.

The complete program consists of three, full-day modules:

  • August 2nd: Module 1 – Manager Redefined: Redefine your role as a manager and leader who encourages and guides employees, advances teamwork, inspires trust, and optimizes results.
  • September 13th: Module 2 – Employee Engagement: Create a workplace environment that promotes employee engagement and development.
  • October 11th: Module 3 – Change and Influence: Develop strategic approaches to making and influencing organizational change.

It is planned that participants in the three-part programs at UCLA and other UC locations will be invited to a regional conference later in the year in order to share and apply learning with their peers from other campuses. Participation is limited to 25 attendees, with the expectation that all three modules will be completed by participants. The program fee is $350 including course materials, continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Each session is scheduled in the Wilshire Center training facility, Room 1080.

If you are interested in attending or want to nominate an employee in your organization, register via the UC Learning Center in the Management Development category and send the nominee’s name and title to Rejeana Mathis at rmathis@chr.ucla.edu by July 6, 2012, along with a statement regarding the benefit of this program for the nominee’s role as a manager. Participants will be notified of their selection in mid-July. If you have any questions, contact Robert Gibson (rgibson@chr.ucla.edu) or Rejeana Mathis for program information.
