Amtrak California’s Westwood/UCLA Thruway is a dedicated bus connection to San Joaquin and Pacific Surfliner trains, making Amtrak train travel seamless, easy and economical. It’s a short walk from UCLA residence halls to get to Central Valley destinations including Fresno and Sacramento, as well as the San Francisco Bay Area, or travel the coast to places like Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo.
Simply board the Thruway bus with your pre-purchased Amtrak eTicket at 592 Gayley Avenue at Strathmore Place. The bus will bring you to the Van Nuys and Bakersfield Amtrak stations to connect with your train.
If you plan on purchasing tickets at the train station, the bus driver will hold your driver license and it will be returned to you at the time of your purchase.

UCLA students may receive a 20 percent discount off best available rail fares. Click on this link to make a reservation and to read all terms and conditions. Tickets must be reserved at least three days before travel and held with a credit card. The fare discount will be automatically applied to qualifying travel when a selected train is added to the cart. A valid UCLA student ID card must be presented as proof of discount eligibility.
Amtrak Faculty and Staff Discount: 15%
UCLA faculty and staff members may receive a 15 percent discount off best available rail fares by going to Amtrak's website and clicking on "Book It Now" on the right side. Tickets must be reserved at least three days before travel and held with a credit card. The fare discount will be automatically applied to qualifying travel when a selected train is added to the cart. A valid UCLA employee ID card must be presented as proof of discount eligibility.
