How to Link to the Campus Services Portal The Campus Services Portal dynamically displays content through a Vignette Content Management System (CMS) and portal product. The Vignette system generates a 40-plus character string for each webpage address. The full path (URL) can be copied from a browser address bar and used as a link. Or, use the guidelines detailed in this article to create a shorter link, for use in emails and websites. First, determine which type of portal page you are trying to link to (Campus Services Portal content is displayed using one of two templates: “landing page” and “article”), then follow the corresponding instructions. Shorter Link to a Landing Page How to Identify a Landing Page Any page accessible through the left navigation on Campus Services homepage is considered a landing page. The persistence of the left-navigation menu indicates that you are on a landing page. Shorter Link Format http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/<Name-of-Landing-Page>
The name of the landing page appears in the left navigation menu and in the breadcrumb (path in the light blue area under the top navigation). Copy the name exactly, including symbols such as an ampersand (&), to match the channel name as it appears in the breadcrumb. Spaces must be removed before and after slashes. Replace spaces within a landing page name with a dash (-).
Examples: http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/Campus-Services http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/Compensation-&-Classification
Note: If the name of a landing page is changed, the reader will see an error page is using an out-of-date shortened URL. The longer system-generated URL is more reliable and can be copied directly from the browser address bar. Shorter Link to an Article How to Identify an Article The “Article ID” near the top left area on a portal page indicates that you are viewing a article, not a landing page. You will not see left navigation on an article. Shorter Link Format http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/<7-digit Article ID>
For example, the shortened link http://map.ais.ucla.edu/go/1001636 goes to the article "UC Ethics Briefing Launched." Another easy way to find an article's shortened URL is by clicking on the hyperlinked article ID in the top left corner of an article. Once you click the article ID, the web page's URL will automatically change to the shortened URL. Note: An article ID is 'permanently' associated to an article when someone creates the article. Even if the article content or title changes, the link will remain valid. Navigation Tip Enter the 7-digit Article ID (e.g. 1001636 without spaces) in the UCLA search box to jump directly to an article. When referencing an article over the phone, use this method, the most direct and convenient way to access an article.
