Published: 2007.09.27 Jackie Reynolds presented this esteemed award at the September CSC Conference to Terry Ryan of the UCLA Library. Jackie Reynolds' presentation: "Terry has continually stepped in to guide campuswide projects to resolution. Her work with the CCLE project alone should earn her a dozen medals. Terry has the rare gift of keeping her eyes on the direction and goals of the whole project while still being able to define and categorize every detail. And she does this without judgment, gathering the views of all stakeholders and pulling out the pertinent points that will help move the process along. While maybe not a traditional Frank award nominee, I believe that her knowledge of technology added to her facilitation skills makes her a true IT leader." Terry's acceptance: "This team is doing a remarkable job as the CCLE planning team. They are working tirelessly with all stakeholders, teasing out the meaning of different points of view about the CCLE and how we should set it up. They are patient, careful and cheerful in the midst of a very difficult task. They are not doing technology innovation per se, but the work they are doing will allow the campus to innovate in technical areas in ways that were impossible up to now, particularly with respect to crossing departmental and organizational boundaries. This is a case where technical innovation alone would not achieve very much, as we have to be organized in certain ways to allow technical innovations to take root across campus." Congratulations, Terry! The award is a memorial to Frank Cofrancesco, who epitomized technical excellence because he was incredibly knowledgeable about the many aspects of local computing, from LAN design and implementation, to software integration, to programming, to support. He was also willing to help all over campus, ensuring that anyone could benefit from his vast knowledge. Additionally, he was confident and accountable in his commitment to help, often using the simple phrase "piece of cake" to sum up his contributions. |
