Sophos Anti-Virus Installation - Windows 2000, XP, Vista

Before You Begin
Please make sure that you have already uninstalled any previous anti-virus program (such as Norton Anti-Virus, McAfee Virus Scan, etc.) from your computer.

NOTE: Although the screen shots are of a Windows Vista installation, the installation process is the same for both Vista and XP.

  1. Please ensure that you have downloaded the ESXP.exe installation file to your desktop. Please be sure that you have saved any open documents and exited out of any other applications before continuing
  2. To start the installer, please double-click on the ESXP.exe icon on the desktop.


  3. After you have successfully installed Sophos, you should have an icon in your system tray that looks like this:



    To verify that the installation is updating to the most current build of Sophos and virus definition files, please right-click the Sophos icon and select View updating status. You should then see a progress window:

    NOTE: If you see the Sophos shield icon with a red circle on top of it  or the icon is grey, your installation was not successful. Please make sure that you are connected to the Internet and try to update the application again by right-clicking the icon and selecting Update Now.
