Go Metro

UCLA Transportation subsidizes 50% of the cost of a quarterly Go Metro "TAP" pass.

A "TAP" pass is good on both Metro Bus and Metro Rail services.

Metro Rapid bus lines can get you to your destination up to 25% faster than local bus services.

Rider Alert: Metro TAP cards should now be working properly

UCLA Transportation apologizes for any inconvenience to our customers that resulted from Metro’s TAP pass difficulties last week. All TAP cards should now be functioning properly. If you experience any further problems with your TAP card, please contact Metro or UCLA Transportation.

It’s Simple to Go Metro!

Go Metro transit passes are available for purchase two weeks before the start of each quarter, online or at the UCLA Central Ticket Office. If you go to the Central Ticket Office bring a valid BruinCard. The first time you buy a Go Metro pass, you'll receive a photo ID card called a TAP pass. When purchasing a pass in subsequent quarters, you can simply renew it online.

When you board any Metro Bus or Metro Rail line, just "TAP" your TAP pass on the blue target located on the top of the fare box. If you plan to transfer to a Big Blue Bus or Culver CityBus after riding Metro, buy a 30¢ transfer coupon when boarding your first Metro Bus.

Eligibility

Students are eligible if they are currently enrolled for the academic quarter, as verified by the UCLA Registrar's Office. Faculty and Staff are eligible if they work on the UCLA campus and are employed 40% or more time. You must have a valid UCLA BruinCard before you can apply, because your new Go Metro pass will use the BruinCard picture on file. Current parking permit holders and full-time vanpoolers are not eligible for the Go Metro transit pass.

Only one Go Metro pass may be purchased each quarter. The pass is the property of Metro and can be confiscated if used for purposes other than intended.

Renewing Online

Once you have your TAP pass, go online at the beginning of the new sales period and sign-up for the next quarter. Within 2-3 business days, the new fare will be electronically loaded onto your existing TAP pass. You must TAP on the bus or rail for the fare download to activate. Make sure to print out your receipt and confirmation number when you renew online.

Rider Notes:

  • It takes 2-3 business days after you purchase TAP pass for the electronic registration of fares to occur. During this time, you may be required to pay regular fares on Metro. If you buy early in the sales period you will not have to pay these extra out-of-pocket charges.
  • Faculty & Staff save even more when they sign-up for the Go Metro pass via payroll deduction. The payroll deduction option is only available by purchasing the pass online. You must renew the payroll deduction authorization online each quarter you sign-up for Go Metro pass.
  • Go Metro TAP passes are not valid on Metrolink commuter trains-a different, regional service-but are valid on any Metro Rail line (i.e. The Red Line).
